About Lucy Marks

Lucy holds an MA in Fine Art (Painting) from the University of Brighton. She is an Associate Member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and a full Member of the Royal Watercolour Society, the Chelsea Art Society, and the Society of Women Artists. She regularly exhibits with these groups and has also shown work with the Pastel Society, the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition, and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, among others.

Lucy has held several major solo exhibitions. In 2021, she was invited by the National Trust at Petworth House to paint its historic park and gardens. The resulting body of work formed Dawn to Dusk, a three-month solo exhibition within the house itself.

In 2022, she presented Constable’s Walks at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) Gallery, London—an exhibition of oils and watercolours inspired by three walks John Constable took in and around Brighton.

Her 2024 show, Times of the Day, featured over eighty new works in oil, watercolour, and gouache, exploring light across landscapes and seascapes from dawn to night. This exhibition was also held at the RWS Gallery.

Lucy’s work has received several awards. She won the Sloane Stanley Medal at the Chelsea Art Society in 2022 and was a finalist for the British Art Prize the same year with her large oil Golden Dusk (120 x 200 cm). Her large oils were exhibited and sold at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in both 2022 and 2023. Earlier accolades include being a Finalist for the ING Discerning Eye Drawing Bursary in 2020 and winner of the Humphrey’s Purchase Prize in 2019.

Lucy also runs workshops in Oil, Watercolour and Gouache through the Winslow Art Center.
