Colour: Theory, Meaning & Making Day Course

Spend a day immersed in colour: how it works, what it means and how to use it with confidence.

This one-day workshop blends colour theory, artist-led discussion and hands-on making. Maya will introduce key colour concepts through a practical lecture and demonstration, drawing on her extensive experience as an artist and illustrator.

Participants will explore the colour wheel and mix paint hues, tints and tones, experiment with watercolour and collage, and uncover the psychology and symbolism of colour. The workshop will also explore how artists from Josef Albers to David Hockney have used colour to shape mood, meaning and composition in their work.

The day combines expert guidance, demonstration and practical experimentation, giving participants the opportunity to test ideas, develop their understanding of colour and build their own colour references to take into their future practice.

Drawing on Maya's extensive experience as an artist and illustrator, the course is designed to challenge and reward every level, from complete beginners to practising artists looking to sharpen their eye and revisit the fundamentals with fresh intent. Participants will leave with a stronger command of colour and the confidence to carry these ideas into their own creative work.

Each participant will receive a specially curated colour theory materials pack to continue experimenting beyond the workshop.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided, with a 30-minute break during the day.

All levels are welcome.

All art materials are provided by Green & Stone.
