SERENA VIVIAN-NEAL
THE LOWER ZAMBEZI & OTHER PAINTINGS
‘Serena Vivian-Neal’s paintings carry the force of long familiarity. They do not look at the Zambezi as a passing visitor might, but as one who has returned, time and again, to witness its character in all its guises. This is the foundation of their strength.’

Serena Vivian-Neal’s paintings carry the force of long familiarity. They do not look at the Zambezi as a passing visitor might, but as one who has returned, time and again, to witness its character in all its guises. This is the foundation of their strength.
In her work, elephants do not decorate a canvas: they occupy it with a physicality that speaks of patience in observation. The Zambezi itself, restless and radiant, is painted with the knowledge of someone who has watched it at dawn, at dusk, and in silence between. These are not picturesque or romanticised versions but lived encounters, translated into paint with both care and conviction.
That care extends beyond the picture plane. By aligning this exhibition with the Painted Wolf Foundation, Serena lends her art to the cause of conservation, just as David Shepherd once did. This is art that reminds us what is at stake and why beauty compels us to act.

The Lower Zambezi & Other Paintings marks the latest chapter in Serena Vivian-Neal’s career. A graduate of Camberwell School of Art, and later apprenticed in gilding and restoration with F. A. Pollak in St James’s, she established herself both as a maker of gilt frames for significant collections and as a painter of considerable versatility.
Her practice spans oils, watercolours, pastels, and ink. She has produced a range of works, including portraits, landscapes, murals, illustrations, and commissions, spanning books to bespoke wedding and event designs. Exhibiting in London, Edinburgh, Hong Kong and beyond, she has also used her work to raise funds for charitable causes from Cancer Research to Help for Heroes.
This exhibition brings focus to nearly two decades of painting inspired by the Lower Zambezi. Its opening-night auction will benefit the Painted Wolf Foundation, underscoring a commitment to the landscapes and wildlife that have long shaped her art.
We invite you to experience The Lower Zambezi & Other Paintings and immerse yourself in the energy of the river and its wildlife. When you choose to purchase a work, you will not only take home a piece of Serena’s vision but also contribute to the conservation of the Zambezi, a purpose that has long guided her practice.

The Painted Wolf Foundation’s objective is to reverse the downward trajectory of the painted wolf (Lycaon pictus) and double their numbers over the next three decades.
We invest in trusted conservation partners across Africa that are making a transformational difference to the species.
Supported by a well researched strategy, our investments focus oninnovation, collaboration and the spreading of best practice.
We also invest in raising awareness of the painted wolf globally so as to lift the profile of this highly persecuted predator and place them firmly onto the top table of conservation.
There will be a silent auction on the first night of the exhibition, with the proceeds to be donated to the Painted Wolf Foundation.
