‘Capturing the Quirky’ with Lisa Fulthorpe
Join us for the second time round for a loose and fun workshop with the incredible Lisa Fulthorpe, where you will be encouraged to ‘Capture the Quirky’. The session will begin with drawing animals and people using the method of the ‘blind contour’. Lisa will lead you through this method which involves carefully observing the outline and shapes of a subject while slowly drawing its contours in a continuous line without looking at the paper.
Attendees will expect to create humorous, wonky and startling compositions that defy any creative preconceptions; art that is truly original. Working in Lisa’s method facilitates a shift from the analytical way of thinking to one that which is intuitive and taps into the subconscious.
Building on the drawing process, the works will then be developed using pen and ink, and watercolour. Making fluid washes of colour with a simple palette of 3-4 colours, Lisa will demonstrate how to make the final tonal finish of her works, after which you will take home a charming work of art.
A range of photos will be provided of animals to draw, however we also encourage you to bring photos of your own furry friends.
All levels are welcome.

‘Linear Perspective in the Painted Cityscape’ with Elena Stogneva
Join us this Summer for a relaxed in-house workshop centred on creating depth, distance, and atmosphere in watercolour painting. Whether you're new to art or looking to strengthen your technique, this workshop helps you build confidence and develop core skills in a supportive setting.
We’ll start with drawing, using linear perspective to show depth and space. You'll learn to use line, tone, contrast, and composition to create dynamic, balanced drawings. Drawing provides structure and clarity before painting.
Next, we’ll move into painting with a limited watercolour palette, exploring how to create mood and depth through colour, light, and shadow. You’ll work in a loose, impressionist style, learning how to simplify scenes and suggest detail without overworking.
Working from photographic references, your tutor will guide you through each stage with live demonstrations, feedback, and time for personal exploration.
This hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop is also great for those with some experience seeking a more structured approach. By the end, you'll understand how to build a painting step by step—from strong drawing to an atmospheric watercolour.

‘Speed Painting: The Quick Portrait in Oils’ with Oscar Jin
Join us this Summer for a workshop with Oscar Jin, where you will learn to capture the portrait at great speed using the fluid medium of oil paint.

explain how to identify ‘anchor points’ (focal facial features that position the portrait in proportion).
With this simple theoretical background, attendants will jump into creating several 10 and 20 minute portraits in oils, working from the life model from different perspectives.
This challenging excersise employs both analytical and intuitive modes of thought, simultaneously putting the painter into a wonderful state of mental flow apt for creativity.Through repetition, painting and scrubbing away, this exercise helps bypass the creative block of perfectionism and promotes a faster feedback loop, key to developing the craft.
Expect to take home an expressive, not ‘photorealistic’, portrait that captures some of the essence of the sitter with brave, flowing brushwork.
